Also from around 2010, this sunset piece was likely inspired by the many sunsets Steve and our family regularly witnessed during summer cottage trips to Lake Huron. The first time I saw this hanging in his apartment it kind of jolted me. Steve often worked from photos as well as memory, but usually shied away from being a strict realist. I find this a little more surreal than most of his stuff and really like it for that reason.
Our friend Diane Hill commented that, “It looks like a sunset on another planet!” I like that interpretation.
Steve was a lover of the sun; there are many references to the sun in many of his songs.
Another example of working with light – in spades! Maureen decided to keep this for our home.
